How children play with it
You attach the compass to the rucksack, head out into the garden and see which way is north. The needle quivers briefly and settles – the child turns, the compass stays the same. Then treasures are hidden – three steps north, two steps east. A pen is used to write the name on the wooden ring, perhaps a little symbol. The compass becomes a personal companion.
