50 colourful transparent chips with metal edging and a magnetic wand invite children to explore magnetic forces. Which materials does a magnet attract, and which does it not? How far does the magnetic force reach? Children discover their own answers with the handy 19.5 cm wand and by watching the jumping chips.

How children play with it
Slide the wand across the table and the chips jump and leap after it. Children test spoons, buttons, stones — what sticks, what doesn’t? Observation becomes a hypothesis, hypothesis becomes an experiment. By trying different distances, children measure how far the magnetic force reaches. They slip paper between the chips and wand and watch to see if it still works.
