In just a few days, children see what usually stays hidden: roots sprout along the inside wall, worms dig visible tunnels through the dark soil. Fill the chamber with earth, add seeds or composting worms, cover with the light shield and observe. Only darkness brings roots and worm tunnels to the plastic wall.

How children observe with it
Children fill with soil, add beans or worms and pull the light shield over the chamber. Each day they lift the cover briefly, compare yesterday’s changes, sketch root paths and worm tunnels in their discovery journal. Patience, observation skills and understanding of soil all grow together.
