Step by step
- Set out a long cord as the base for the whole group
- Prepare a number bead matching each child's new age
- On each birthday, thread the bead together with the child during circle time
- Let the child also choose a charm bead as their personal symbol
- Keep the chain visibly displayed in the group room after each birthday
Safety first
- Knot or glue small parts securely; for use with under-3s, supervision only
- Check the material for wear before first use and regularly afterwards
- Not suitable for free play by children under 3, only guided and firmly joined use

- Keep a separate chain in its own colour for each group
