What you need

Step by step

  1. Sort the beads into your preferred colour sequence
  2. Fasten the cord to the clip and pull taut
  3. Thread the wooden beads and the charm bead in the centre
  4. Check the length against the clip regularly
  5. Finish the chain with a double knot and trim any loose fibres

Safety first

  • Total length including clip no more than 22 cm, in line with EN 12586
  • Never use while sleeping, in the cot or in the pram without supervision
  • Never lengthen the chain or add extra cord
  • Attach the clip to clothing only, never worn as a cord around the neck
  • Check knots, beads and clip for a firm fit before every use

Variations

  • Extend into a name chain with letter beads
  • Use a whale or fox charm bead instead of the car for a different animal motif

Our tips

  • Natural, untreated wooden beads look timeless and suit any first layette

Frequently asked questions

Is wood suitable for newborns?

Yes, our wooden beads are finished to be saliva-resistant – it's still important to never leave the chain unsupervised.

Can I lengthen the chain later?

No, for safety reasons a finished dummy clip must never be lengthened afterwards – it's better to thread a new one.
