Play Ideas
A child starts with the counting frame: sliding red and blue beads, comparing quantities. Later, counting discs are laid out, and the shaker box provides feedback on quantities with a soft sound. Linking cubes become tens rods, and the Dienes set shows the decimal system in an almost tangible way. With each tool, maths becomes a little less abstract and a little more of a hands-on experience.
