How children use them

Daniel traces his index and middle fingers over the sandpaper – the 3 has two curves. He says ‘three’ aloud, and the sound blends with the sensation. Later he traces the 3 in the sand on the tray – the movement pattern is already embedded. Marie learns the 7 – a straight line to the right, then diagonally downwards. The concentration is visible.
