How children play with it
The finger feels the curve of the 3, traces the sweep of the 5, stops at the point of the 1. The sandpaper scratches lightly across the fingertips – rough, clear, memorable. Children speak the number as they feel it, the voice speaks what the hand feels. This connection between movement, touch and sound formation paves the way for later writing.
