What you need

Step by step

  1. Wrap the bell in a small piece of felt or fabric scrap so it doesn't sit directly at the mouth
  2. Fasten the cord to the clip
  3. Thread beads on both sides of the wrapped bell
  4. Stitch the bell package firmly or bind it with sturdy thread so it can't come loose
  5. Check the total length including the clip: maximum 22 cm
  6. Knot and secure the ends

Safety first

  • Total length including clip no more than 22 cm, in line with EN 12586
  • Never use while sleeping, in the cot or in the pram without supervision
  • Never lengthen the chain or add extra cord
  • Attach the clip to clothing only, never worn as a cord around the neck
  • Check knots, beads and clip for a firm fit before every use
  • Never thread the bell loose – always bind or fabric-cover it firmly so the clapper can't come off

Variations

  • Use two smaller bells instead of one large one
  • Combine with letter beads for a name chain with a bell

Our tips

  • The bell should always sit outside the chain's main grasping and mouthing zone

Frequently asked questions

Why shouldn't the bell be threaded loose?

A loose bell can come off and pose a choking risk – we recommend sewing it in firmly or binding it.

How do I attach the clip properly?

The clip is attached to clothing only, and should never be worn as a cord around the neck.
